This course examines the development of chemistry before the 20^th century. The focus will be on how it developed in the western cultures, but some descriptions of Chinese and Islamic contributions and principles with respect to chemistry will be incorporated; not only contributions and principles that are meaningful for today’s understanding of chemistry, but contributions and principles that are representative of the period in which they emerged.
